Summary
The Chassahowitzka River Boat Launch is the primary public gateway to the upper Chassahowitzka River and its network of spring-fed tributaries in Citrus County, Florida. Located at the end of Miss Maggie Drive, this launch provides access to one of the most scenic and wildlife-rich spring systems on Florida’s Gulf Coast.
From here, paddlers can reach clear freshwater springs, narrow jungle-like creeks, and well-known destinations such as Seven Sisters Springs, Baird Creek (“The Crack”), Crab Creek, and several smaller tributary spring vents.
This area is best explored by kayak, canoe, or paddleboard, as many of the side creeks are shallow, narrow, and undeveloped. This site is often referred to locally as the Chassahowitzka River Recreation Area and serves as the main launch for exploring the river’s spring system.
Springs Accessible From This Launch
This launch provides paddling access to multiple springs throughout the Chassahowitzka River system.
Major Destination Spring
Seven Sisters Springs – A well-known cluster of shallow, connected spring vents with clear water and small limestone openings. Popular with paddlers and swimmers. (Link to your Seven Sisters page.)
Smaller Tributary Spring Vents
These springs are natural, undeveloped features located along narrow creeks and backwater channels. They contribute clear groundwater flow to the river but are not large swimming destinations:
-
Potter Creek Spring – A small spring source at the upper end of Potter Creek that contributes freshwater flow to the river system.
-
Salt Creek Head Spring – A headwater spring feeding Salt Creek before it transitions toward brackish coastal waters.
-
Baird Creek Springs – A cluster of small spring vents at the upper end of Baird Creek that supply freshwater to the Chassahowitzka River system
