he Halls River Springs Complex is a group of natural spring vents that feed the upper Halls River system near Homosassa in Citrus County. These springs emerge in low, marshy terrain west of US-19 (Suncoast Boulevard) and form the headwaters of the Halls River.
Unlike park springs with clear swimming areas, these springs are subtle groundwater vents within a winding river and wetland system. They are best understood as natural headwater springs that sustain the river, rather than developed recreation sites.
Springs in this Complex
-
Halls River Head Spring – The primary headwater spring contributing flow to the upper Halls River. Located closest to US-19 and nearby commercial development.
-
Halls River Spring #1 – A mapped spring vent along the upper river system
-
Halls River Spring #2 – Another spring vent contributing groundwater to the river
Access Notes
There is no designated public access point, park, trail, or boardwalk at these springs.
The Halls River Head Spring lies very close to commercial development along US-19. For example, the area just west of Wallace’s at the Greenhouse, a local restaurant on US-19, sits near the same low, marshy headwater zone. While the spring vents themselves are not accessible from the restaurant property, the property does overlook the head springs. So you can enjoy the view of the pond that is fed by this spring while eating there.
The other springs (#1 and #2) are located farther upstream and are more remote, reachable only by paddling a significant distance through winding river channels and marsh habitat.
Reaching any of these springs by water would require a long paddle or small-boat trip and is not considered a typical recreational spring outing.
