Summary
Small, crystal-clear spring tucked along the Suwannee River — reachable only by boat
Turtle Spring is a hidden riverside spring that you can only visit by paddling or boating the Suwannee River. There are no roads, parking lots, or signs — just a quiet, emerald pool spilling into the dark tannin water of the river.
This is the kind of stop you discover while exploring the river, pull up to a sandy bank, and slide into cool, clear spring water surrounded by trees and limestone.
Because it’s boat-access only, Turtle Spring stays far less crowded than drive-up springs, making it a favorite rest stop for kayakers and boaters looking for a peaceful swim.
What It’s Like
Turtle Spring is small but beautiful. The clear spring water forms a shallow swimming hole right along the riverbank, with a sandy/rocky shoreline and submerged limestone features. The spring water is noticeably cooler and clearer than the surrounding river, creating a striking contrast where the two meet.
Visitors often beach their kayak or small boat along the sand and wade into the pool. It’s a great place to cool off, relax, and let kids splash in calm water while adults float and enjoy the scenery.
Because it sits directly on the river, conditions can change:
-
After heavy rain or high river levels, the spring can be darker or partially mixed with river water
-
During lower, clearer river conditions, the spring really shines with that classic Florida-spring blue-green color
Access & Getting There
Turtle Spring is only accessible by water. You cannot drive to it, and GPS directions on land may lead to private property.
Most visitors reach Turtle Spring by launching from nearby Suwannee River access points, like Sims Landing 1852, and paddling upstream or downstream depending on launch location.
