Pinehurst Spring is a very small spring located near Little Sarasota Bay in Sarasota County, Florida. Unlike major public springs, Pinehurst Spring is not a recreational swimming destination and is largely unknown outside of local water resource records.
The spring is situated in a heavily developed residential area near Gulf Gate Estates and appears to discharge into nearby coastal waters and canals connected to Little Sarasota Bay. Modern development has significantly altered the surrounding landscape, and the spring today exists primarily as a monitored hydrologic feature rather than a public natural attraction.
USGS monitoring records identify the site as “Pinehurst Spring Near Sarasota FL.” Historical and environmental records suggest the broader Sarasota coastal zone once contained numerous small springs, creeks, shell middens, and wetlands prior to large-scale urban development in the 20th century.
Because of its extremely small size and urban setting, Pinehurst Spring is generally of interest mainly to:
- hydrologists,
- environmental researchers,
- local historians,
- and spring enthusiasts documenting lesser-known Florida springs.
There are no developed public recreation facilities associated with the spring.
