Island Spring is a submerged spring located within the Wekiva River system in Seminole County near Sanford. The spring lies beneath the river channel rather than forming a visible shoreline spring boil, making it one of the lesser-known springs associated with the Wekiva basin.
St. Johns River Water Management District records describe Island Spring as a third-magnitude spring submerged in the eastern portion of the Wekiva River channel. Historical discharge measurements collected between 1982 and 1997 recorded flows averaging roughly 6.4 cubic feet per second.
Because the spring is underwater and located within the river itself, most visitors pass over it without realizing it is there. Submerged springs like Island Spring contribute clear groundwater to the Wekiva River and help support the river’s stable flow and water quality.
Unlike developed Florida springs with swimming areas or parks, Island Spring is primarily known through scientific surveys, hydrology records, and river exploration.
