Summary
Hunter Springs Park is one of the most family-friendly places in Crystal River to swim in spring-fed water and spot wildlife from shore. Visitors love the mix of a small sandy beach, shallow wading/swim zone for kids, picnic tables and grills, a playground, and a short waterfront boardwalk that’s great for birdwatching.
The park is small, but it’s a convenient “quick spring day” spot right in town, and it’s also a popular launch point for kayaks and paddleboards headed out into Kings Bay.

Springs in This Park Area
Hunter Springs is the main named spring associated with the park, with spring vents offshore feeding Kings Bay. Nearby vents in the broader area are often referred to as the Moray Springs Complex (including springs like House Spring and “Jurassic Spring” that paddlers mention in local trip reports). From this access point, many visitors paddle out toward other Kings Bay springs, including Three Sisters (timing and rules vary by season).
Rules & Safety Notes
- No alcohol or glass containers
- No pets in the park (service animals allowed under ADA rules)
- No fishing from anywhere in the park or shoreline
- No jumping/diving/climbing from the boardwalk
- No tents, canopies, or large umbrellas (4-foot max umbrella diameter)
- No smoking except designated areas
- No commercial activity or rentals in the park
- Pay stations accept credit cards only (have your vehicle tag number ready)
Insider Tips
- Crowds & parking: The park is small and can fill up fast—especially weekends, holidays, and school breaks. If the lot is full, visitors often park a few blocks away and walk in. Go early to get parking and for better visibility.
- Pay immediately after parking—multiple visitors mention quick parking enforcement and tickets if you forget.
- Bring a snorkel mask even if you’re “just swimming”—people often say the fish viewing improves a lot with goggles.
- If you’re visiting with kids, plan breaks: swim → playground → picnic → swim again. It’s the easiest way to enjoy the cool water longer.
- If your goal is paddling to other springs, launch early to avoid wind and boat traffic later in the day.
