Summary
Troop Spring is a third-magnitude spring in Gilchrist County along the Santa Fe River, located downstream of the Ichetucknee River confluence and upstream of the Suwannee River. The spring enters the river along a wooded, largely undeveloped stretch of floodplain. Troop Spring is located on private property and is not a recreation site.
Troop Spring is notable for its extremely elevated nitrate concentrations, reported as the highest of any spring along the Santa Fe River. High nutrient levels, low dissolved oxygen, limited vegetation, and heavy algae presence have led researchers to describe the system as biologically degraded.
