Nestled within the Econfina Creek Water Management Area, Williford Spring is one of the most popular freshwater springs managed by the Northwest Florida Water Management District, known for its brilliant blue water, powerful spring boil, and family-friendly swimming area.

Williford Spring is a second-magnitude spring that emerges from a limestone vent beneath a broad circular pool before flowing roughly 443 feet through a short spring run into nearby Econfina Creek. The spring pool measures approximately 57 feet across and about 10 feet deep over the main vent

Unlike many Florida springs located inside state parks, Williford Spring remains free to visit and offers an excellent combination of swimming, snorkeling, hiking, and picnicking in a peaceful forest setting.

Part of the Econfina Creek Spring System

Williford Spring is one of 11 named springs or spring groups that feed Econfina Creek, one of Northwest Florida’s premier paddling destinations.

Altogether, the creek contains dozens of individual spring vents that discharge exceptionally clean groundwater into the creek before eventually reaching Deer Point Lake, the primary drinking water supply for much of Bay County.

Because of its importance, the Northwest Florida Water Management District protects more than 41,000 acres surrounding Econfina Creek to help preserve water quality and spring flow.

Swimming & Snorkeling

Williford Spring is one of the Panhandle’s best swimming springs. Concrete steps with handrails provide easy entry into the spring while helping protect the shoreline from erosion. The spring is also popular for snorkeling thanks to its exceptional water clarity.

Unlike many springs, motorized or paddle vessels are not permitted inside the spring pool. You can launch boats from the nearby Econfina Public Canoe Launch.

Kayaking & Canoeing

A boardwalk leads from the spring to a canoe and kayak launch on Econfina Creek.

Many visitors paddle sections of the creek before returning to Williford Spring for a swim, making it one of the most popular launch points within the water management area.

Nearby Pitt Spring and Sylvan Spring can also be reached via hiking trail.
