Fenney Spring
Fenney Spring

Fenney Spring is a spring in Sumter County, Florida, located east of Coleman near present-day The Villages development. The spring forms the headwaters of Shady Brook, which ultimately flows into Lake Panasoffkee.
The spring is identified as SP18 in a U.S. Geological Survey study of the Lake Panasoffkee watershed. USGS researchers described Fenney Spring as a largely undeveloped spring pool surrounded by wetlands and low forested terrain.
Historically, the spring existed in a much more rural setting, though the surrounding area has since become part of the expanding Fenney area of The Villages. Today, the nearby Fenney Springs Nature Trail preserves part of the natural landscape associated with the spring system.
Fenney Spring is hydrologically important because it contributes flow to Shady Brook and the broader Lake Panasoffkee watershed. The USGS also noted that nearby karst features and sink systems may influence groundwater movement feeding the spring.
